Strategizing Your Corporate Wellness Plan
Updated: Mar 20
Historically, employee satisfaction has been linked to a specific role interconnected with overall happiness and employee wellness has been confined to physical health. Within the last year, the workforce experienced a considerable amount of transition with additional stressors in both personal and professional capacities. Here is what we know so far:
While workplace absences are normally expected to increase in the fall, the increase in 2020, was earlier and steeper than expected. For both November and December, absences were higher than in the same month for any of the previous five years. The increasing absences coincided with the surge in COVID-19 cases that began in October and continued through the fall.
The prevalence of symptoms of anxiety disorder in 2020, was approximately three times those reported in the second quarter of 2019 (25.5% versus 8.1%), and prevalence of depressive disorder in 2020, was approximately four times that reported in the second quarter of 2019 (24.3% versus 6.5%).
The coronavirus shutdowns have closed schools and daycare centers around the country, keeping kids at home and making it even harder for parents (especially mothers who tend to provide the majority of childcare) to keep working. Childcare poses an additional challenge to working mothers during the pandemic.
By February 2021, 22.7 percent of employed persons teleworked because of the coronavirus pandemic.
As businesses and organizations prepare to become fully operational, the need to be engaged with the mental fitness of the workforce is greater than ever, as the full psychological impact of the pandemic is yet to be determined. Here are different ways Vision Collective Group can help your business systematically establish a process to offer guidance and support:
Data is powerful and when used appropriately, it can help solve some of our greatest challenges. Establishing a mentally fit workforce starts with collaborating with key members of your business to gather and identify the appropriate information. This ensures we ask the right questions, draw accurate conclusions, and make informed decisions.
Identify Problem Solving Approaches
We will serve as a partner, acknowledging the needs and constraints of the organization while serving as an advocate to promote the mental well-being of the overall workforce. Every workforce is unique and you need a trusted partner who can improve your diversity of thought and offer a fresh perspective.
Devise an Action Plan and Implementation Process
We will work collaboratively with leadership to develop a vision and strategic operating plan that addresses the challenges your organization is facing. Ideally, your plan will align with your organizational core values and strategic vision. We recognize how important your workforce is to your top and bottom line. That's why we partner with you through the planning and implementation phase.
As we prepare to enter the post-pandemic era, it is vital to invest in the mental fitness of your people, through system-wide enhancements rather than individual interventions. Investment in your workforce is not transactional. The benefits of your investment include increased productivity, retention of personnel, and improved client satisfaction. All of which would place businesses and organizations in position to thrive and empower their workforce for the foreseeable future.
